About Us

Bozzi’s Honor Flags—originally known as PTSD Woodwork and Crafts LLC—has been proudly serving Plano, IL and the greater Chicagoland community since 2019. What began as a small workshop has grown into a respected, veteran-owned business dedicated to crafting handcrafted wooden honor flags and meaningful wooden creations. Our mission has always been rooted in respect, gratitude, and service—values carried forward from the experiences of our founder, Don Bozzi, a proud U.S. veteran.

Don’s journey into woodworking began during one of the most challenging periods of his life. In the fall of 2019, after returning from two combat deployments to Iraq (2004–2007), Don was diagnosed with Conversion Disorder and Pseudo Seizures brought on by combat-related PTSD. After a 26-year career as a tractor-trailer driver, his diagnosis meant that returning to his work was no longer possible. But in that difficult transition, something life-changing happened.

During Don’s hospital stay, he was visited by Greg—the founder of A Call to Shoulders, an organization dedicated to helping veterans rediscover purpose through craftsmanship and community. Greg took Don under his wing, offering knowledge, encouragement, and the tools needed to begin creating art through woodworking. With Greg’s mentorship and a newfound sense of direction, Don purchased his first lathe, gathered a small set of tools, and transformed the basement of his new home into a workshop that would ultimately become Bozzi’s Honor Flags.

For Don, woodworking is more than a trade—it is therapy, purpose, and a way to honor the heroes who selflessly serve their communities and country. Every flag and handcrafted item is created with intention, precision, and heart. Each piece is a tribute: a symbol of courage, sacrifice, and the stories that deserve to be remembered.

Today, Bozzi’s Honor Flags stands as a testament to resilience and gratitude. Don recently made an American Flag for my brain injured son-in-law who happens to be an Illinois State Trooper that was injured on the job when he was hit by a car. He has been in a coma going on 4 years now but occasionally has situational awareness. Don's work on this flag is amazing. It is crafted out of wood, but to look at it closely you can see the fine workmanship that went into it. It is a combination of artwork, a painting, a sculpture, and a wood craft all in one. The greatest thing about it, in my opinion, is the personalization Don incorporated into it. It has my son-in-law's name on it, his badge, and his badge number is crafted right into the wood as well as the Illinois State Trooper's logo. I also especially like that Don did not go with the red and white stripes that you see on a normal fabric flag. Instead, he went with the natural tone of the wood with alternating black striping which makes it "pop". Nice work Don!!!
